The air for Formula 1 contenders like Adrian Sutil or Sebastien Buemi is getting thinner. Because the starting field for 2013 is now taking concrete steps. On Wednesday (October 31st) two more driver positions were announced with Nico Hülkenberg (Sauber). Toro Rosso continues to hold on to its two young drivers Jean-Eric Vergne and Daniel Ricciardo. And that of all places where Buemi celebrates his 24th birthday on Wednesday.

'They both did a good job this season,' says team boss Franz Tost. We will do our best to develop a car for you for 2013 that underlines your talent. ”

Technology guru James Key develops the Torro Rosso

That should succeed. Because the car for the next season will be developed by technology guru James Key, who is also responsible for this year's Sauber. It will be exciting to see what Vergne and Ricciardo can achieve with the new car. The two youngsters were grateful for the new chance at Toro Rosso.

'It was a difficult season and as a rookie I learned a lot - also thanks to everyone's support and the good relationship' said Vergne. 'I feel a lot stronger now and I know that I've become a better driver over the season.' Vergne has three, eighth places on the account as the best result and eleventh position as the best starting position.

'There are great expectations for next year and I am ready to meet them,' said Ricciardo. 'I've grown and developed as a driver. The technical approach has also developed further this year.' The Australian finished ninth four times and achieved his best qualifying result with sixth on the grid in Bahrain.
