W if Ayrton Senna weren't there, would be today hardly anyone remember the small British racing team Toleman. In the early 1980s, the team competed in the Grand Prix circus for five seasons. Toleman was only able to celebrate successes with one driver: Ayrton Senna.

Ayrton Senna's first Formula 1 car

This drove in his first year in Formula 1 Super talent from Sao Paulo on the podium three times. Senna celebrated his best result with second place in the rain of Monte Carlo. Alain Prost was lucky in the clearly superior McLaren that the race was stopped after 31 laps. Otherwise Senna would probably have challenged him for victory.

The talent of the eventual three-time world champion was also evident in the defeated car. So it was no wonder that the Toleman period ended after just one season. Lotus secured the services of the fast young man. Toleman will always be remembered as the first Formula 1 station of the superstar who died in an accident in 1994.

Toleman car from the Monaco race

Now comes one the first Senna Formula 1 cars under the hammer. Of all things, the Toleman TG184 is being auctioned, with which Senna narrowly missed victory in Monaco in 1984. On the wet track, Senna had overtaken 11 cars in 19 laps. And that in the narrow jungle of crash barriers of Monte Carlo.

The chassis with the number two was powered by a 1.5 liter Hart inline four-cylinder engine. The car will be auctioned by 'Silverstone Auctions' in 'excellent original condition'. Restoration was never necessary after that.

Stefan Johansson second owner

After the season came Stefan Johansson in possession of the car. The Swede competed as Senna's team-mate in the last three races of the 1984 season and apparently got the Formula 1 racer in return for the races. In 1994, the Toleman racer designed by the famous F1 engineers Rory Byrne and Pat Symonds was sold to the current owner.

On May 16, the car with the great story goes under the hammer. Incidentally, a former Formula 3 racer from Senna is also present at the big 'Spring Sale'. The name of the Brazilian racing legend repeatedly ensures high prices at auctions. Only recently was an original Ayrton Senna helmet for just under 90,000 eurosauctioned.

In our photo gallery we present the Toleman from 1984 in detail again.
