' We bought it from an 80-year-old grandma on our street in 1988, then I drove it first and gave it to us then on to Hinnerk, 'says Henning Hoff,' that was our school and disco car. Well, and then I went to study, at one point the car was too expensive to maintain. '

In the garage for 15 years

Fortunately, the brothers didn't sell the VW 1600 L, but instead kept it in a dry garage for 15 years under. 'The prices were simply too low, nobody wanted a Type 3 with an automatic system,' says Hinnerk Hoff.

Two years ago, the two brothers tackled the revival project. 'There was hardly anything to be done: only the brakes were overhauled, the fuel line replaced and the car was running again, the car now has 110,000 kilometers on the clock, the engine was never opened and the VW was otherwise a very grateful one reliable car ', remembers Henning, who was born in 1970 like the VW.

Relationship to the Porsche 911

Despite the distant relationship to the Porsche 911 - after all, the type also carries 3 its boxer engine behind the rear axle - the car is a bit out of place on the Nordschleife. 'We really gave everything we could and demanded the last of the 54 hp boxer, but we just couldn't make the cut with the three-speed automatic,' admits Hinnerk Hoff, 'but that doesn't matter the driving is just fun. And with the road book there are no problems at all, only once we made a user error and had to drive back a few meters. '
