Testing the Citroën ë Space Tourer

It loads watts in! 75 kilowatt hours, a good 4.5 cubic meters of luggage or six sociable fellows. So far so good. But how far does he get, how good is he? Test.

There are many things that one would like if they only worked. In addition to the Deutsche Bahn as such or the online registration of cars, this now also includes the Citroën ë-Spacetourer. This is also an excellent idea in approach and theory - but one that fails due to the not insignificant factors of implementation and practice. And that's how it works:

In order to create a monopoly for the decision-making power of the electric drive, the Stellantis Group decided to no longer sell its delivery vans and large vans across the company empire as diesel, but only with the 100 kW universal electric power plant operate and distribute. This is in everything electric from the Opel Corsa-e up to the Spacetourer and its identical group buddies Opel Zafira Tourer and Peugeot Traveler. Since the range of a 2.4-ton hum with a standard battery is not all that far-reaching, it is available for an additional 6,000 euros with 27 instead of 18 modules.

Unsuitable for long distances

,

Their 75 kWh, promises Citroën, are enough for 330 km. But no, they are not enough. Even in Eco mode, which was reduced in terms of performance and comfort due to the turned down heating, we only shivered for 252 km. In normal mode, it is 211 km before the bus has to charge. With 100 kW direct current, this goes from 0 to 100 percent in 45 minutes. For the charging stop at the 22 kW wall box, you can set yourself up to seven and a half hours, as we measured. Maybe even in the Space Tourer.

Little payload

,

Because it accommodates the electrical department without restricting its space. So it accommodates the travel or loading stop-waiting company in an uncrowded and comfortable way on six individual seats. The four rear seats can be moved, turned around or removed entirely. Then the furniture of a child's room fits into the hold (we also tested it). The junk shouldn't be too heavy because of the paltry 564 kg payload for this size class. Which doesn't contribute as much to the Spacetourer's unattractiveness as the price of 66,400 euros.

Which is downright sad because the bus drives nice. With homogeneous emphasis on the quiet drive, reasonable efficiency (5.7 kWh/100 km per passenger), affable comfort, high but handling-free driving safety and properly positioned assistance. A space tourer with diesel, that's it, don't you think? It is available from Stellantis' cooperation partner Toyota as Proace Verso. You don't have to understand it, but you can not only find it good, but also like to find it better.

Conclusion

The Spacetourer roams so comfortably and efficiently for the transport performance - with a short range and high price, it requires too high a financial investment for too many compromises.
