Overview of trade fair highlights
Subscriptions & booklets

F ord extends the engine range of the nine-seater with a new top diesel engine with immediate effect. The four-cylinder generates 185 hp from a two-liter displacement and provides a maximum torque of 415 Nm. The new engine replaces the previous top engine with 170 hp. For a surcharge, the new diesel can be combined with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Mild hybrid should reduce consumption

The optional 48 volt mild hybrid technology for all versions is also new with manual transmission. A belt-driven, integrated starter generator (BISG) enables the recovery and storage of energy and the charging of an air-cooled 48-volt lithium-ion battery when the vehicle is decelerating. The starter generator also functions as an electric motor, which uses the stored energy to provide the diesel engine with additional torque support during normal driving and acceleration and to operate the vehicle's auxiliary electrical units. The hybrid component should reduce consumption by around four percent.

Plug-in hybrid with 50 km electric range

From the end of 2019, the Tourneo Custom then also in a plug-in hybrid version to have. It relies on an electric motor that drives the front wheels. Energy is provided by a 13.6 kWh lithium-ion battery under the vehicle floor. This should enable purely electric ranges of up to 50 kilometers. Also on board is a 126 hp three-cylinder one-liter turbo gasoline engine that functions as a range extender. If this is used, the range should increase to up to 500 kilometers.

The battery of the Tourneo Custom PHEV can be connected to a conventional household socket with 230 volts and 10 amps of current via a connection option in the front bumper fully charged in 5.5 hours. With a 230 volt connection with an amperage of 16 or 32 amps, this time span is reduced to around three hours.

A regenerative braking system helps to recuperate energy. Of course, the battery can also be recharged at the socket. Ford are loading times between 3 and 5.5 hours on. Four different driving programs are also available. The eight-seat Tourneo Custom PHEV personal transporter will be available exclusively in Germany in the “Titanium” equipment variant. The Tourneo Custom PHEV costs from 71,900 euros. The commercial vehicle variant Transit Custom PHEV is available from 57,114 euros.

In all versions, the assistance systems have also been added. The Blind Spot Assistant now covers a much larger area. Also new are adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assistant and active parking assistant.
