Cost and real consumption: Renault Kangoo TCe 130 Intens

The high-roof station wagon comes with a 1.3-liter turbocharged petrol engine for a cost and consumption check. How expensive is everyday life with the practical French?

"The well thought-out Kangoo impresses with clever everyday solutions and is more powerful. It costs significantly less than the Intens and also offers even more equipment." In the conclusion of our test editor Clemens Hirschfeld about the Renault Kangoo TCe 130 Intens compared to the competitor VW Caddy 1.5 TSI Life already sounds like cost advantages. However, questions about consumption and maintenance costs remain unanswered - they are answered here.

Our test consumption

Renault specifies the WLTP consumption of its high-roof station wagon with four-cylinder turbo petrol engine as 6.8 liters per 100 kilometers. In the test, this becomes 8.3 liters, resulting in costs of 17.26 euros for this distance due to the currently high fuel prices. But it is also much more economical and cheaper: The eco consumption of 6.9 liters lowers the equivalent of premium petrol to 14.35 euros. A sporty driving style results in a consumption of 9.8 liters, which raises the fuel costs to 20.37 euros. These are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (03/28/2022 /Super: 2.079 euros/litre).

Monthly maintenance costs

Per year, 159 euros in vehicle tax for the Renault Kangoo TCe 130 Intens must be transferred to the Treasury. According to Allianz Direct , liability insurance costs 412 euros in the same period. If the car is also to be covered by partially comprehensive insurance, this costs an additional 76 euros per year. For a fully comprehensive upgrade, 537 euros will be charged extra. In the overall calculation, the family friend costs 285 euros per month if it travels 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage doubles, the sum increases with it – to 518 euros. The loss in value is not taken into account in this calculation.

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption is made up of three differently weighted consumption runs. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.

The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and fully comprehensive insurance with Allianz Direct, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (accident-free/15,000 km per year/resident in the postcode area 70174/not under 21/partner driver older than 25 years).

Conclusion

The Renault Kangoo TCe 130 Intens with 130 hp 1.3-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine costs at least 27,350 euros and consumes an average of 8.3 liters, which results in fuel costs of 17.26 euros per 100 kilometers. The monthly maintenance costs are 285 euros for an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers. If this increases to 30,000 kilometers, the sum increases to 518 euros.
