E in true auto pioneer returns. When the first Chrysler Voyager came onto the market in 1984, it did exactly what the Renault Espace in Europe and the Mitsubishi Space Wagon in Japan did almost at the same time: They paved the way for the triumphant advance of minivans. For six generations, the Voyager was almost synonymous with this family-friendly MPV class. But the name gradually disappeared from the market in the noughties. In the USA the series was called Town & Country at some point, in Europe the even more practical local vans à la Opel Zafira and VW Touran gradually dug it out. In 2014 the Voyager was finally over, which has since been sold with the Lancia emblem. Also because many families have long preferred SUVs to vans.
Entry-level version the Pacifica series
But now the Chrysler Voyager is back. But only in the USA. And not as a separate model, but as an entry-level version of the Pacifica van series. It replaces its inexpensive equipment variants L and LX and is even offered in the model versions L, LX and LXi, whereby the latter can only be purchased by fleet customers. Always on board are seven seats and connectivity options via Apple Carplay and Android Auto. Chrysler also wants the new Voyager to be particularly well adapted to the needs of wheelchair users.
The equipment scope of the LXi variant includes artificial leather seats, additional storage spaces under the rear seats and under the roof, remote engine start and garage opening, alarm system , folding sun visors in the second row and automatic dimming for the interior mirror. The LX comes with satellite radio as well as more comfortable seatsin the rear and storage options in the car floor. The special equipment includes items such as the cold weather package, the LXi standard storage space system in the roof and a DVD system with fold-out screens. Six paint finishes are available for the body; There are also three interior colors.
Pentastar V6 with 291 PS and 355 Nm
The current expansion stage of the Pentastar V6 petrol engine serves as the drive source. The engine develops 291 hp, provides a maximum of 355 Newton meters of torque and is linked to a nine-speed automatic. Since the press release says that the new Chrysler Voyager offers 'a smooth, exceptionally quiet and comfortable driving experience', the chassis should be rather soft. The assistance package includes parking sensors and a rear cross traffic warning including automatic braking and a blind spot assistant. Inside there is a 3.5-inch driving data display between the instruments and the fourth generation of the Uconnect infotainment system with a seven-inch touchscreen. Six loudspeakers with active ambient noise suppression are on board free of charge.
Chrysler does not mention a specific date for the market launch of the new Voyager or a base price. However, like the basic version of the Pacifica before it, it should be just below the $ 30,000 mark. The Pacifica, which is around 10,000 dollars more expensive, remains in the program. It is now allowed to play the role of the higher-quality model variant and is coming onto the market a little refreshed for the 2020 model year.
