Virgil Abloh had drawn a Maybach before his death. It is now available in a special edition limited to 150 copies.
Virgil Abloh was an artist, architect, creative director, fashion designer and philanthropist – he died in November 2021. Before he died, he had designed a Mercedes-Maybach together with Gorden Wagener, Head of Mercedes Design. This is now coming onto the market as a special series. Only 150 copies are to be built.
The market launch coincides with the release of a Capsule Collection clothing line designed by Virgil Abloh in collaboration with fashion brand Off‑White, which was already developed and presented in connection with the electric show car Project Maybach.
Full house and two-tone look
The basis for the Virgil Abloh Edition is of course the Mercedes-Maybach top model S 680 with equipment that leaves nothing out. On the exterior, the special model uses a two-tone paint finish that presents the upper part of the vehicle in glossy obsidian black. The lower part, the flanks and the special forged wheels are painted in a sand tone.,
The four-seat interior takes up this two-tone color scheme. The steering wheel, lower dashboard and headliner are lined with black and sand-colored nappa leather and have sand-colored decorative strips. The high-pile floor mats are black, bordered with sand-colored leather and embroidered with the Mercedes-Maybach logo. The window frames are painted and a special Mercedes-Maybach and Virgil Abloh logo is engraved on the piano black center of the center console, rear seat cushions, door sills and headrests.
Refined MBUX system
The user interface of the MBUX system is also refined. The classy upgrade ranges from a colored bordered home button and branded logo denoting the edition, to profile pictures adorned with luxe fashion accessories.
With the luxury sled, every buyer receives a specially made wooden box, which is covered with sand-colored nappa leather and bears the logos of Mercedes‑Maybach and Virgil Abloh. The gift box contains a 1:18 scale replica of the vehicle, the two vehicle keys and a carabiner. In addition, customers receive a special vehicle cover as a gift, which also bears the aforementioned logos. It is not yet known at what price a Maybach buyer can enjoy this gift box.,
Conclusion
If a Mercedes-Maybach buyer is too bored with a normal Maybach, the Virgil Abloh Edition now offers the opportunity to purchase a particularly exclusive model. However, only 150 customers can enjoy it.
