Costs and real consumption: Audi A7 Sportback 55 TFSI Quattro

The V6 turbo petrol engine of the large four-door coupe develops 340 hp. In which regions does the engine drive consumption and everyday costs?

"The A7 impresses with its supple suspension comfort combined with calm agility and high everyday utility. And it comes with a lower price." Author Marcus Peters sees the Audi A7 Sportback 55 TFSI just ahead in the comparison test with the BMW 840i Gran Coupé xDrive. But can the large four-door coupé also convince in terms of fuel consumption and maintenance costs?

Our test consumption

When it comes to consumption, the signs are bad for the Ingolstadt. According to the WLTP standard, he should approve 8.5 liters of Super per 100 kilometers. The test consumption is significantly higher, namely 10.4 liters. This settles the fuel costs for this distance at 17.25 euros. The fact that the A7 55 TFSI can also be significantly more economical is demonstrated on the Eco lap: consumption of 7.3 liters means that the equivalent value of the petrol tumbles to 12.11 euros. When moved in a sporty manner, the all-wheel drive Sportback consumes 12.8 liters, which catapults the fuel costs to 21.24 euros. These are calculated using the daily updated fuel price on our partner portal mehr-tanken.de (06.09.2021 /Super E5: 1.659 euros/litre).

Monthly maintenance costs

The tax authorities estimate 272 euros for the annual vehicle tax. Liability insurance for the Audi A7 Sportback 55 TFSI Quattro costs 478 euros per year. If you upgrade with partially comprehensive insurance, you pay an additional 272 euros; a fully comprehensive upgrade costs 1,359 euros extra. This puts the monthly maintenance costs for drivers who use their car 15,000 kilometers a year at 368 euros. If the mileage doubles, the value increases to 658 euros. We neglect the loss in value in this calculation.

How to test

The auto motor und sport test consumption consists of three differently weighted consumption drives. So-called “commuter consumption” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work, which averages 21 kilometers. A particularly economical, approx. 275-kilometre-long eco-lap is included in the rating with 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent is accounted for by the sports driver lap. The length is roughly the same as the eco lap, but the route includes a larger proportion of motorway and thus higher speeds on average. The basis for calculating the fuel costs is always the price quoted on the "more tanken" portal on the day the article was created.

The monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear part costs and vehicle taxes assuming an annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without loss of value. The calculation is based on the test consumption, a three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and comprehensive insurance with Allianz, including discounts for garage parkers and the restriction to certain drivers (not under 21). At Allianz, SF12 offers a discount rate of 34 percent for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance.

Conclusion

The Audi A7 Sportback 55 TFSI Quattro with 340 hp 3.0-liter V6 turbo petrol engine costs at least 69,590 euros and consumes an average of 10.4 liters, which results in fuel costs of 17.25 euros per 100 kilometers. The monthly maintenance costs are 368 euros with an annual mileage of 15,000 kilometers. If this increases to 30,000 kilometers, the sum increases to 658 euros.
