At the Geneva Motor Show the new Porsche Cayenne celebrates its premiere. It continues to build on the platform of the VW Touareg, which was also completely modernized for the 2010 model year. In contrast to its Wolfsburg brother, however, the new Porsche is considerably more dynamic: a flowing round tail, crowned by a veritable spoiler on the roof edge, brings back memories of the 968. The flat tapering front with wide flared headlight domes and the wide LED daytime running lights with the cooling air openings below, on the other hand, quote the current 997.

The new Porsche Cayenne is significantly more economical

Longer, lower, lighter - the new Cayenne crouches. With a wheelbase longer by 40 millimeters and at the same time reduced body height, the new design is intended to signal more sportiness than the lavish predecessor. At the same time, new system components have reduced weight, up to 180 kilos depending on the engine. The interior looks more valuable. The graduated dashboard and the raised center console frame the driver in the typical sports car style; overall, the interior styling is now significantly more independent than before. Also new: the rear bench seat can be moved by 160 millimeters depending on the space required for luggage or passengers.

All versions will in future be available with the new eight-speed automatic Tiptronic S and, in conjunction with this, a start /stop Function. The entry into the Cayenne world continues to be marked by the V6 gasoline engine with a displacement of 3.6 liters, which has increased to 300 hp. It is also the only model that is still available with a manual transmission. As an automatic version, its consumption drops by 20 percent to 9.9 liters. The Cayenne S with the 400 hp 4.8 liter naturally aspirated V8 will in future burn 10.5 liters on average, the 15 hp weaker predecessor consumed 13.7 liters per 100 kilometers.

The sport versions and the off-road option are omitted

The top is being thinned out: The GTS sports version is no longer available, and the over-Cayenne Turbo S is no longer in the range either. The peak in performance is markedaccordingly the Cayenne Turbo with still 500 hp, but significantly reduced thirst: in the European driving cycle this is now 11.5 instead of 14.9 liters. It is also said goodbye to rough passages off the road: the optional off-road technology package with gear reduction and mechanical differential lock for the rear axle is no longer applicable.

Two models are to be particularly economical in the future to take care of reduced fleet consumption at Porsche . The revised V6 diesel engine is still specified with 240 hp, but should still treat itself to 1.9 liters less than its predecessor - 7.4 liters on average. The Cayenne S Hybrid will also have the lowest CO2 emissions of the entire Porsche model range. The combination of a V6 gasoline engine with supercharging and the electric motor flanged between the gasoline engine and the gearbox produces a total system output of 380 hp. The maximum torque of 580 Newton meters is already available at 1,000 revolutions thanks to the electric motor support. Only 8.2 liters of fuel consumption are the reward for the complex technology.

D Depending on the model, prices rise between 2,531 and 4,400 Euro. The entry-level Cayenne with V6 petrol engine starts at 55,431 euros, while the Cayenne Diesel costs 59,596 euros.
