VW boss Martin Winterkorn said that China is the world's most important market for the VW group. The success of electromobility in China is crucial for the global implementation of the electromobility strategy.

VW Elektro-Lavida especially for China

VW is showing the in Beijing World premiere of the Elektro-Lavida. The Lavida model is specially manufactured for the Chinese market. The E-Golf will then be presented at the Expo in Shanghai. VW also wants to send a fleet of test vehicles through China.

Critics have accused VW in the past of neglecting the issue of electric cars for a long time. Winterkorn affirmed on Thursday at the VW general meeting in Hamburg that Volkswagen wanted to 'lead the way' in electromobility worldwide. As a multi-brand group, VW has what it takes to help the electric car achieve a breakthrough 'like no other'. 2013 will be the 'key year' for electric cars. VW then wants to bring electric versions of the Golf and Jetta models and the new Up small car onto the market. Volkswagen is working with several partners - including the Japanese electronics groups Toshiba and Sanyo and the Chinese car manufacturer BYD.

VW: Additional investments in China

Volkswagen invests an additional 1.6 billion euros in China. 'The growth in the Chinese auto market has exceeded everyone's expectations,' said VW CEO Martin Winterkorn on Monday at the Beijing auto show. Volkswagen is now planning a total of six billion euros in new investments in the world's largest car market from 2010 to 2012. Among other things, two new plants are to be built. A spokesman reported that the development of new drive technologies such as electric cars will be accelerated.
