Eight models under four liters consumption

I ntotal of eight vehicles remained under four liters in the editors' tests: In addition to the Polo, the Smart Fortwo Coupé 0.8 CDI with 3.6 liters of diesel, the VW Polo with the more powerful 1.6 TDI engine (3.7 liters Diesel) as well as the Opel Corsa 1.3 CDTi, the Skoda Octavia Combi 1.6 TDI and the Volvo C30 Drive (each 3.9 liters of diesel) as well as the Toyota Prius and the Prius plug-in hybrid (both 3.9 liters of Super). This makes the Prius the most economical petrol engine in Germany.

BMW 5 Series 520d EDE manages with 4.9 liters

In the compact class alone, 22 models consume five liters of diesel or less per 100 kilometers. There are also six petrol engines. Even in the middle class there are enough cars with low consumption. 13 mid-range cars only need five liters of diesel or less. The VW Passat Variant Blue Motion is the most economical mid-range car in Germany with just 4.0 liters per 100 km.

Amazing results are also possible in the upper class. The BMW 5 Series 520d EDE managed with 4.9 liters of diesel, closely followed by the Audi A6 2.0 TDI, which made do with 5.1 liters of diesel. The Mercedes S-Class manages with 5.2 liters of diesel in the luxury class, followed by the heavy Porsche Panamera, which is content with 5.8 liters of diesel.
