Government promotes national brands
According to von Neumann, the Chinese government has been promoting national brands for some time. 'Against this background, all joint ventures of foreign manufacturers in China - such as our FAW Volkswagen and SAIC Volkswagen - are being asked to develop local brands,' said the China boss. 'We basically see a local car brand as an opportunity to appear in market segments in which Volkswagen has not yet been represented in China.'
