J ungwirth comes from the American IT company Apple and reports directly to Matthias Müller. With the new department and the appointment of Jungwirth, Volkswagen is strengthening itself sustainably in the future field of digitization, which is important for the automotive industry.

Jungwirth had previously worked as Director in the development of Mac computer systems and in the Special Projects Group at Apple in Cupertino, California (USA) since 2014 - with responsibility for innovation in technology and design, for product development as well for recruiting, development and management of a multicultural team for research and development.
In 2009 Jungwirth was appointed President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Research & Development North America and was responsible for the research and development center in Sunnyvale, California (USA), has been commissioned with further international locations. Jungwirth and his team from Silicon Valley managed, among other things, the research and development of autonomous driving, powertrain and electric traction, technology and vehicle development as well as the development of telematics services and user interaction design in the US market. From 2008 to 2014, Jungwirth was Vice-President Infotainment and Telematics, responsible for research, technology and product development of infotainment and connected car solutions.
