W ie the car exchange mobile.de determined in an evaluation of 100,000 advertisements for auto motor und sport, the used car prices at the end of 2011 were in almost all categories above the previous year's level.

Small cars particularly expensive

Small cars are still in particularly high demand. The average price is currently 9,800 euros, 3.1 percent above the previous year's value. With an average price of 50,600 euros, luxury-class vehicles are still in high demand and are 2.3 percent more expensive than at the end of 2010. The compact class has only increased slightly by 1.5 percent with an average price of 14,500 euros.

On the other hand, the popular SUVs have fallen sharply in the price of used cars. They are on average 4.9 percent cheaper than a year ago, with an average price of 29,800 euros. The prices for models in the upper middle class have also declined, which at 28,400 euros are around 2.5 percent cheaper than a year ago.
Not surprisingly, the sustained strong demand for economical small cars. In view of the high gasoline prices, demand rose sharply again at the end of the year. According to mobile.de, prices rose by 3% in November alone.

Models from German manufacturers are in greatest demand across all classes. 66 percent of the inquiries at mobile.de relate to domestic production cars. Models from VW, BMW, Mercedes and Audi are particularly popular on the second-hand market. The most popular models are the VW Polo, VW Golf and Passat, the BMW 3 Series and the Audi A4 and Audi A6 models. Anyone looking for cheap used ones should therefore switch to imported brands. At best, the difference can be more than ten percent.
