The story of the new TVR Grifftih started around Christmas 2015. The British had sent a first teaser picture to potential customers, followed by various other teasers . They show a sports car with sidepipes and distinctive ventilation gills in the flanks, the gear knob of a manual transmission or a distinctive front with a contoured bonnet. And where will the new TVR be built now? In Wales, more precisely in Ebbw Vale not far from Newport. Former TVR owner Nikolai Smolensky had already thought about a plant in Wales. The Welsh Government will invest in the TVR manufacturing facility as it will eventually create jobs in the area. There should already be 400 orders that will ensure long-term production.

Start of production for the TVR Griffith is postponed

For the first new TVR, which comes as a coupé and a convertible, around 400 firm orders should already have been placed. Some of the buyers, who have already paid down 5,000 pounds of the approximately 90,000 pound final price, have already seen the new TVR behind hidden doors. At the start there will also be a special launch edition limited to 500 units with special rims, special paint, full leather appointments and a special infotainment system. The new Griffith should be produced from the end of 2018. But nothing will come of it now. For the start of production, the old factory halls in Wales were to be modernized. The corresponding work has not yet started. The reason for this is bureaucratic. Because the state of Wales holds 3% of the shares in TVR, the works conversions had to be put out to tender across Europe under EU law. That caused delays. Now the award procedure seems to have been completed and a developer has been found. Initially, the new production start for the new TVR was specified at the end of 2019. However, this was gradually postponed. Current status: No Griffith should be manufactured before the end of 2020. Then only the Launch Edition should be built initially. The start of series production is planned for 2021. It is not yet certain whether and how a Brexit could have an additional influence.
