Transmission problems: recall of the Porsche Cayenne and Panamera

D he technical reason for the recall: The socket with which the gear selector lever is attached to the gearbox can wear out so badly over time that it comes loose. This means that the driver may move the selector lever to 'P' before parking and remove the ignition key, but the transmission is actually not in 'P' at all. The car could roll away without the driver being notified of the error via a warning message or an acoustic signal.

Recall affects more than 330,000 cars

The recall affects both the first generation the Cayenne (July 23, 2002 to February 5, 2010) and the first Panamera (August 20, 2008 to September 13, 2016). 336,858 vehicles are affected worldwide. 26,496 of these cars are in Germany and 77,054 in all of Europe. In North America, 108,388 cars have to go to the workshops, 99,665 of them in the USA. According to the American traffic safety authority NHTSA, these are the following model years and versions:

  • 2003-2006 Porsche Cayenne S and Turbo,
  • 2004 -2010 Porsche Cayenne,
  • 2006 Porsche Cayenne Turbo S,
  • 2010-2016 Porsche Panamera S, 4S and Turbo
  • 2011-2016 Porsche Panamera and Panamera 4 ,
  • 2012-2013 Porsche Panamera Turbo S,
  • 2013-2016 Porsche Panamera 4 GTS,
  • 2014-2016 Porsche Panamera 4S Executive, Panamera Turbo Executive, Panamera Turbo S G1 II and Panamera Turbo S Executive,
  • 2013 Porsche Panamera Platinum Edition and Panamera 4 Platinum Edition,
  • 2016 Porsche Panamera Edition, Panamera 3 Edition, Panamera Turbo S Executive

The recall in the United States is scheduled to begin on August 11, 2019. Porsche will write to the owners concerned and the workshops will replace the bushing on the gear selector lever free of charge. It will be the same in Germany and the other markets. Until then, the owners are requested to always activate the parking brake when parking.
