D he new top model should be the small car series with a powerful engine and complete it with a dynamic design. The sporty Yaris, which is only available as a three-door model, was seen for the first time at the Monte Carlo Rally, where it was presented alongside the WRC model. It will then make its trade fair debut together with the facelift of the civilian Yaris in March at the Geneva Motor Show. The name: Yaris GRMN, which stands for Gazoo Racing Masters of Nürburgring.
Yaris with over 210 hp
Toyota is upgrading its small car with new aprons, new side skirts and a rear spoiler. The sports appearance is rounded off by large alloy wheels and paintwork in the Toyota motorsport colors. Meanwhile, information about the drive has also leaked. The Toyota Yaris GRMN is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder with supercharging. As a reminder: a 1.6-liter four-cylinder turbo is rampaging in the rally car. The unit in the strongest street Yaris should bring it to over 210 hp. This makes the small car a competitor for the VW Polo GTI, Ford Fiesta ST and Peugeot 208 GTi.
With the power version, the normal Yaris will also receive a small facelift and a modified interior. The civil versions also have a new front apron, optional LED daytime running lights in the main headlights and new LED taillights. There are also new aprons on the front and rear, redesigned light alloy rims and new beads in the flanks. The tailgate was also slightly modified. In the interior there are new ventilation nozzles, a new TFT cockpit display and new seat covers. The touchscreen on the dashboard is also new.The Toyota Safety Sense system (emergency brake assistant, high beam assistant, lane departure warning, traffic sign recognition) is now standard in all Yaris models. The extended color palette can also be combined with a contrasting black roof.
On the engine side, a new 1.5-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated engine replaces the 1.33-liter unit in the civilian Yaris. The power increases to 111 hp and 136 Nm. The new engine should only need 11 seconds for the sprint from zero to 100 km /h. Consumption is said to have decreased by 12%. The hybrid powertrain has been retained, but many points have been optimized.
The new Toyota Yaris will be rolling out to dealers from April 24, 2017. Customers can choose between three engines and four equipment lines - including the exclusive Launch Edition for Market launch. The base price is 12,540 euros. The five-door starts at 13,240 euros. The new 1.5-liter petrol engine is available from 14,240 euros, the hybrid model costs from 17,990 euros.
