
D he market launch for the electrically powered Toyota RAV4 is for the year Planned for 2012. Until then, the partners Toyota and Tesla want to develop a drive train for the RAV4 that enables a range of 160 kilometers under real driving conditions on one battery charge. A test fleet of 35 vehicles will be sent to field trials as early as 2011.
RAV4 EV gets its own look
The Toyota RAV4 EV will have a new grille, a new front apron and a new one Visually distinguish headlights from the combustion model. The EV rolls on 18-inch alloy wheels, has LED fog lights and a special white water-based paint. In the interior, the instruments and displays as well as the gear selector lever are to be adapted to the new drive train. Toyota promises that the loading volume of the Toyota RAV4 will not be restricted by the electric drive.
The manufacturer is still keeping a low profile when it comes to driving the Toyota RAV4 EV prototype. A lithium metal oxide battery with a capacity of more than 30 kWh is currently being tested; a lithium-ion battery is to be used later.
