The world's most expensive new cars cost several million euros. But which model tops this extraordinary list? First of all: It is not a Bugatti, Ferrari or Koenigsegg.
When it comes to the most expensive cars in the world, certain brands keep popping up. Bugatti, Ferrari, Koenigsegg. But the question of the most expensive car on this planet cannot be answered that easily. Because in most cases you never find out the real price paid for the collector's items, which cost several million euros. With the auctioned classics, the matter is clear. Here, the Mercedes-Benz 300 SLR Uhlenhaut Coupé holds the record of an unimaginable 135 million euros.
But things get more difficult with officially available current models. In any case, there is no Ferrari in our top 25 (see gallery). Most vehicles are only small series from small manufacturers, which are specially tailored to customer requirements. Nevertheless, the variety of manufacturers is enormous. Very few companies are represented more than once. In this illustrious circle, the Bugatti brand almost seems like a large-scale manufacturer.
Demand is high
In the absolutely most expensive league of the automotive industry, one thing seems clear: the demand is consistently huge. Announced models often seem to be sold out before production starts. So if you want to buy one of the automotive rarities from this top 25 for several million euros, you can't just order one.
Special relationships are often necessary, a certain number of vehicles or a proven preference for the brand. And the waiting times for the mostly handcrafted valuables are considerable. Customers have often paid large sums in advance and then wait a few years for delivery.
A lot of electric models
Incidentally, the segment of the most expensive new cars in the world is dominated by sports cars. Whereby this term is stacked too deep in view of four-digit excesses in performance. In modern German, such vehicles are referred to as high-end hypercars. But not all models are suitable for the racetrack. The currently most expensive car in the world, for example, relies entirely on solidity.
What is striking in this price range is the trend towards electrical support for powerful combustion engines, or even fully electric drives. The 1914 hp Rimac Nevera, which comes in 17th for €2.5 million, is just one example. We have prepared the top ten for you in more detail. It starts with the hybrid high-flyer Mercedes-AMG Project One for at least 3.3 million euros each. You can also find the entire top 25 in the gallery.
The top 25
10th place: Mercedes-AMG Project One
After there had been rumors in the meantime that Mercedes could end the experiment called Project One because of the many technical difficulties, the hypercar with Formula 1 technology is finally here. And at a price of 2.75 million euros without tax. That and the limitation to 275 copies limit the number of those who are allowed to drive. Driving the AMG One should always be a very special experience for every customer. According to his own statement, factory driver Maro Engel felt the same way on his Nürburgring record lap.
9th place: Aston Martin Valkyrie
Aston Martin and Red Bull have developed a hypercar for the road and the racetrack. The Valkyrie, designed by star designer Adrian Newey, is intended to set standards in terms of acceleration and cornering. The 6.5-liter V12 naturally aspirated engine delivers 1,014 hp at 10,000 rpm. The maximum torque of 740 Nm is reached at 7,000 rpm. The hybrid component provides additional thrust. 162 hp and 280 Nm are mentioned here. Aston Martin puts the system output at 1,155 hp at 10,500 rpm and 900 Nm at 6,000 rpm.
8th place: McLaren Solus GT
McLaren brings its virtual racing car Solus GT into the real world. In the future, 25 well-heeled buyers will be able to romp around the racetrack in the single-seater, which has its origins in a video game. Anyone who thinks that such concepts have no place in the current climate discussion, let me tell you - all 25 copies were already sold before the presentation.
7th place: Koenigsegg CC850
With the CC850, Koenigsegg is celebrating its first production car, the CC8S from 2002. Technically, however, the hypercar is breaking new ground. The gearshift of the 1,385 hp Swede is particularly interesting.
6th place: Bugatti Bolide
The Bugatti Bolide is the result of a lightweight construction experiment based on the Chiron. From 2024, 40 lucky customers will be able to experience it on the race track. However, the extreme Alsatian is getting heavier and not quite as strong as announced.
5th place: Bugatti Mistral
What a conclusion: With the W16 Mistral, Bugatti is building a roadster that is technically based on the most powerful Chiron, but which is visually unique. The car can and should set the speed record for roadsters - just like its predecessor Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport Vitesse did in 2013.
Bugatti only builds 99 Mistrals - the era of the legendary eight-liter sixteen-cylinder engine also ends with the roadster, which first drives the Veyron and now the Chiron and the Mistral. A base price of 5.95 million euros is not a hurdle for customers - the entire production has long been sold out.
4th place: Spyros Panopoulos Chaos
He is ambitious, Mr. Spyros Panopoulos. It promises more than 3,000 hp and a top speed of over 500 km/h - without any electrical support. The prices from at least 5.5 million euros fit in with this.
3rd place: Pagani Huayra Codalunga
Pagani delights an exclusive part of the already exclusive clientele with a new small series. Based on the well-known Huayra, there will be five copies called Codalunga. A longtail version inspired by the Le Mans racers of the 1960s that costs at least seven million euros.
2nd place: Bugatti Chiron Profilée
It was planned by Bugatti as a small series, but then remained a one-off because no more production capacities were available: the Chiron Profilée. It was designed as a more elegant version of the Pur Sport. It was auctioned off in early 2023 – for around ten million euros.
1st place: Rolls-Royce Boat Tail
Rolls-Royce proves once again that with the necessary small change, virtually no customer wish goes unfulfilled. The third and last special Boat Tail model goes to the son of a pearl manufacturer and is said to have cost around 26.2 million euros.
Conclusion
The most expensive new cars in the world cost several million euros and are almost all hyper sports cars. More and more powerful electric drives with four-digit performance figures are dominating. However, it was not a Bugatti, Koenigsegg or Ferrari that came first, but a very solid Rolls Royce.
