I n the past nine years, the BMW X5 was eight times the most popular British car model. More specifically, the car thief in the UK. Only in 2017 was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class able to displace it from its first place in the top 10 of the most stolen and recovered vehicles in the UK. In 2018, however, it was again: X5 on 1, C on 2. The analysis of the car safety company Tracker shows a clear tendency towards three brands: BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover. The top 10 most stolen vehicles in the UK in 2018 only include models from these three manufacturers. With a total of four models, Mercedes-Benz is the most popular brand among car thieves.

Compared to the previous year, the BMW 3 Series has climbed from fifth to third place. The Range Rover Sport has lost a bit of its appeal with the bad guys. He falls from third to eighth place. After dropping out of the top 10, the Range Rover Vogue moved up to sixth place. His brother, the Land Rover Discovery, has settled in seventh place on the list of car thief shopping (l). The most expensive vehicle to be stolen and then retrieved in the UK was a Rolls Royce Ghost valued at 140,000 euros. The cheapest was a Toyota Land Cruiser, which cost 1,165 euros.

VW Golf is no longer in the top 10

In 2017, the second best-selling car in Great Britain, the VW Golf (10th place /2017), a top 10-worthy popularity among car thieves. Together with the BMW M3 (9th place 2017), it had to make room for the newcomers to the list: the Mercedes-Benz S-Class (9th place 2018) and the Range Rover Vogue (6th place/2018). The Mercedes-Benz GLE (place 10/2018) was able to steal the membership of the Top 10 Club from the Range Rover Autobiography (place 8/2017).
