A Even if the 50th anniversary of the E-Type outshines everything, the long unloved XJ 40 should be devoted a few lines. Okay, we know that it is cheap, that its price has long since bottomed out, that it can only go up, that it is slowly shedding its underdog image. So, buy now!

Our review copy costs only as much as a great customer service with a few wearing parts like mufflers or shock absorbers. The optics, smoothness and performance of the grandiose four-valve inline six-cylinder are always impressive, even if it's the small 3.2-liter. But the brand-typical double headlights suit him much better than the huge glass blocks of the upscale XJ 40 variants.

The mileage is reasonable in terms of the price, the Jaguar sedan looks neat inside and out, a few smaller rust marks need to be overcome. The TÜV deadline has already been exceeded due to the long idle time - but this should be included in the price so that at least there is calm on this front.

  • Pro: Well-maintained car, low price, no maintenance backlog except for the level control
  • Cons: Increased risk factor due to high spare parts prices and complex technology
  • Conclusion: entry-level youngtimers for little money to enjoy the Jaguar feeling
