A software error can affect the eCall system. Affected by the recall are the Suzuki models Across and Swace and the Toyota models RAV4, Corolla, Mirai, Highlander and Corolla.
The car manufacturers Suzuki and Toyota, together with the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), have started a recall for the Suzuki models Across and Swace and the Toyota models RAV4, Corolla, Mirai, Highlander and Corolla. A software error in the eCall system can switch off the emergency call control module.
As a result, the system can no longer accept calls from the emergency call center. This would mean that rescue workers in particular would take action immediately, even if there was no emergency.
Affected by the recall are 20,477 Suzuki vehicles worldwide, including 3,566 in Germany. The vehicles are from the construction period 2020 to 2022. Suzuki calls all owners of affected vehicles with their car to the workshops via the KBA. There, new software is installed on the emergency call control module.
The KBA is conducting the Suzuki recall under the reference number 012490. At Suzuki, the recall is under the manufacturer code 99XH.
Around 250,000 cars at Toyota
Toyota is recalling 249,242 vehicles worldwide, 20,067 of them in Germany. The vehicles are from the construction period 2020 to 2021. As with Suzuki, new software will be installed on the control units of the vehicles concerned. If necessary, Toyota even completely replaces the telephone receiver.
The KBA is conducting the Toyota recall under the reference number 011174. At Toyota, the recall is under the manufacturer code 21SMD-073.
Conclusion
Faulty software can lead to problems with the eCall emergency call system in the Suzuki models Swace and Across as well as the Toyota models RAV4, Corolla, Mirai, Highlander and Corolla.
