The automotive year 2009 had numerous new SUVs and off-road vehicles to offer. While the SUV faction was still very sparsely represented in Geneva in spring, the IAA 2009 presented some large and small off-roaders in September. The party included the new Range Rover generation, the Land Rover Discovery, the Toyota Land Cruiser, the Tucson successor H yundai ix35 and the new Kia Sorento.

IAA 2009: BMW X1 and X6 Hybrid

For the first time, the German trade fair audience was able to convince themselves of the qualities of the BMW X1 in series trim. In terms of engines, the BMW X1 uses the 1 and 3 series.

Hyundai iX35 with automatic start-stop for the IAA 2009

New Kia Sorento in stores

Infiniti now also on the German market

With two SUV models, Nissan's Nobel offshoot is Infiniti now also present on the German market. The most important model is the sporty FX off-road vehicle, which targets competitors such as the Porsche Cayenne, Range Rover Sport and BMW X5 with a V6 and, in the future, a V8 engine. Among them is the Infiniti EX, which as sporty crossover between station wagon and off-road vehicle against BMW X3 and Co.

For some established off-roaders, there were model updates last year, including Mazda CX-7, Suzuki SX4, Fiat Sedici, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mercedes GL or Audi Q7.

Numerous new models for 2010

Further facelifts are also on the agenda for 2010: First and foremost the VW Tiguan, whose new brand face was already unveiled in China at the Guangzhou Motor Show. In Germany, the refreshed version should come on the market in spring 2010. At this time, the Dacia Duster - the new price breaker in the compact SUV segment - will also hit the market. The presentation of the 4x4 Romanian will take place at the Geneva Motor Show 2010.

Nissan's successful model Qashqai is getting a makeover at the turn of the year - Porsche and BMW have the new editions of the Cayenne and X3 in the quiver. And with the off-road Amarok, Volkswagen wants to break the global dominance of Asians in the pickup market.
