'The KBA is examining the facts with Porsche regarding the so-called steering wheel identification', confirmed one Spokesman for the Federal Ministry of Transport to the business magazine.

Steering wheel recognition also at Porsche

With the help of the steering wheel recognition, vehicles can recognize whether they are on the road or in test mode on a roller dynamometer. On the test bench, the car is accelerated but not steered. Manipulated cars can then automatically switch to a special mode in which they use less fuel and emit less carbon dioxide (CO2). In normal operation, consumption and emissions are significantly higher. In November, the Federal Ministry of Transport already carried out an investigation by Audi models commissioned.

According to information from 'WirtschaftsWoche', Porsche insiders have put the ministry on the track. The officials first asked representatives of the company. Since these apparently could not dispel all doubts, the ministry commissioned the KBA with a more detailed investigation. Porsche did not want to comment on the process and simply stated that 'our vehicles meet the requirements of the legislature with regard to consumption data and exhaust emissions that were valid at the time of registration'.
