Fiat boss Sergio Marchionne recently confirmed the intention to move the Fiat location into Termini Imerese in Sicily to close by the end of 2011. In addition, Marchionne had announced a two-week production stop for all Italian plants due to 'an order situation that is worse today than at the beginning of 2009 in a deep economic crisis', which affects around 30,000 employees in Italy.

Fiat calls for government incentives to buy

Fiat only announced a net loss of 0.8 billion euros for 2009 just over a week ago. Overall, the entire group turnover had collapsed by 16 percent. In 2008 Fiat had a net profit of 1.7 billion euros. The group had made the hope of returning to profitability in 2010 dependent on the continuation of state incentives across Europe. As reported by Italian media, the participation in the morning work-out was between 50 and 80 percent.
