S o manufacturers seldom make an effort for a special model: With the 1.4-liter TSI, the Skoda Fabia R5 gets an engine that is otherwise not found in the Fabia. The four-cylinder petrol engine is known from the VW Group and also from Skoda models, in the special model it has 125 hp and is coupled with a seven-speed dual clutch transmission. The engine helps the special Fabia to achieve sporty driving performance: 100 km /h can be reached in 8.8 seconds. The top speed is specified with 203 km /h, the consumption with 4.9 liters /100 km. That corresponds to 115 g CO2 /km.

Limited special model

The abbreviation 'R5' is known from the World Rally Championship, and this is exactly what the special edition is supposed to remind of - Skoda is celebrating its victories with it by Fabian Keim and Frank Christian in the German Rally Championship (DRM) and the title in the World Rally Championship (WRC2). Skoda describes the Fabia R5 as 'by far the most successful vehicle in the series-based R5 category'. The special model therefore has badges with the inscription 'Edition R5' stuck to the rear and the rear wheel arches. Stickers on the front fenders refer to the WRC2 champion from rallying. The number is limited, 600 Fabia R5s sold in Germany. Each one receives a certificate and a number.

Features and price

The special model is not freely configurable, but is well equipped ex works. The R5 is painted in candy white with a black roof. Sports chassis, steering wheel and seats are standard, as are 17-inch wheels. The radio also receives stations via the DAB + digital standard, has a Bluetooth hands-free system and connect services such as the automatic emergency call eCall. The central locking opens the car as soon as the key is close enough to the car. Distance cruise control, parking sensors and reversing camera ensure a safe distance from stationary and moving traffic on the route and in the city. Sensors switch lights and windshield wipers on and off. The price is 22,990 euros. Skoda specifies the price advantage at 2,000 euros. For comparison: a Skoda Fabia Monte Carlo with 110 PS TSI and 7-speed DSG costs 21,410 euros.
