As the longstanding head of the internationally important Italian design company, Sergio Pininfarina and his team were responsible for the designs of almost all Ferrari models. Other clients included Maserati, Cadillac, Alfa Romeo, Ford, Volvo and Lancia.
Sergio Pinifarina, born on September 8, 1926, took over the Turin design company from his father Battista in 1966. To date, he has worked in the family business for 16 years. The trained mechanical engineer suffered a severe blow of fate in 2008. His son Andrea, CEO of the design company since 2001, was killed in a traffic accident at the age of 51.

Sergio Pininfarina was one of the most prominent entrepreneurs in Italy. Born in Turin, he headed the Confindustria industrial association from 1988 to 1992. Because of his services to the Italian economy, he was appointed senator for life in 2005. Pininfarina was also a member of the European Parliament from 1979 to 1988, he was a member of the Ferrari Board of Directors from 1969 to 2011 and Professor of 'Car Body Design' at the Turin University from 1974 to 1977. Sergio Pininfarina leaves behind his wife Giorgia and his sons Lorenza and Paolo.
