D he technology platform “Schaeffler High Performance 48 V” shows a drive architecture in which an electric motor is located as an “electric axle” on the rear axle. The electric motor on the rear axle provides permanent, purely electrical power of 20 kW. This e-axle supplements the combustion engine acting on the front axle. In the case of the demonstrator vehicle, this is connected to a 48-volt belt starter generator.

Also drives purely electrically

With the Schaeffler e-axle, a starting torque of up to 2,000 Nm generated. In addition to purely electric driving up to 35 km /h, active 'sailing' is also possible at speeds of more than 70 km /h. Another special feature of the integrated two-speed e-axis is the possibility of torque vectoring. The bottom line is that in addition to the increased driving pleasure, there should also be substantial CO2 savings.
