A ndriven the compact vehicle is by means of two built into the rear wheel arches Wheel hub drives in which all components necessary for drive, deceleration and driving safety - such as electric motor, power electronics and controller, brakes and cooling - can be found within the 16 inch rim.

Wheel hub drives create a lot of free space

The drive units each deliver a maximum of 40 kW or one Continuous output of 33 kW. The maximum torque is up to 700 Nm. The electrical voltage of the high-voltage drive is 360 to 420 volts. Schaeffler puts the weight of a wheel hub drive unit at 53 kilograms. Around 45 kilograms more than a wheel unit with a conventional internal combustion engine. On the other hand, thanks to the compact bundling in the wheel arch, the drive modules create a previously unknown economy of space.

The E-Wheel Drive Ford Fiesta is currently undergoing an extensive cold test
