In 2008, SAIC sold over 1.826 million vehicles in China. According to the company, around 60,000 people are employed in car production. The SAIC group includes the brands Nanjing MG, SVW, SGM, Sunwin and SAIC-GM Wuling.
In the joint Venture with the Volkswagen group, SAIC produces the VW Santana, the Santana 3000, the VW Touran, the Skoda Superb, the Skoda Octavia, the Skoda Fabia, the VW Polo and the VW Passat.
The Buick Regal, Buick LaCrosse, Buick Park Avenue, Buick GL8, Buick Excelle, Chevrolet Sail, Chevrolet Lova, Chevrolet Epica and Cadillac models originate from the cooperation with GM.
The subsidiary brand Wuling, also a joint venture with GM, builds the models Sunshine Rongguang, Xingwang, Hongtu and other small cars.
The Rexton, Kyron, Actyon, Rodius and New Chairman models come from the participation in the Korean car manufacturer SsangYong. In addition, the group, which had acquired licenses for various models from the British car maker Rover, produces these models under the Roewe brand name as the 350, 550 and 750 for the Chinese market. SAIC wants to make the leap to Europe with newly launched MG models that are to be manufactured in Great Britain.
The VW Santana is sold as a Standard and upscale 3000 Vista version offered. The drive range extends from the 1.6 liter four-cylinder with 95 hp to the 109 hp two-liter four-cylinder. The VW Touran, which largely corresponds to the German model, offers Shanghai-VW with a 120 PS two-liter petrol engine and a 150 PS 1.8 liter turbo petrol engine.
D he China Passat can optionally be equipped with a 1.8 turbo gasoline engine with 163 hp, a 2.0 liter with 116 hp or a 2.8 liter V6 with 190 hp.
The VW Polo, which corresponds to the state of the last generation, is offered as a hatchback, notchback sedan and a cross Polo. The engine range only includes a 1.6 liter with 105 hp. The China Touran is powered by a 120 hp two-liter petrol engine or a 1.8T with 150 hp.
The Roewe 750, based on the Rover 75, has an optiona 1.8-liter turbo gasoline engine with 160 hp or a 2.5-liter V6 with 190 hp under the hood. The models 350 and 550, on the other hand, are completely in-house developments. A 1.5-liter gasoline engine provides propulsion in the 350, while the 4.62-meter-long 550 has 1.8-liter engines with 133 and 160 hp.
The data for the Rexton models are identical with the data of the vehicles known in this country. The Buick Regal, which is the Chinese derivative of the Opel Insignia, is also familiar to the viewer. This is fired either by a 2.4 liter with 165 hp or a two-liter turbo with 220 hp. V6 units with a displacement of 2.5 and 3.0 liters work in the GL8 van. The Park Avenue luxury sedan, based on the Holden Statesman, has a 3.6-liter V6 with 250 hp or a 2.8-liter V6 with 201 hp under the hood. The Chinese LaCrosse is related to the US model, but has a completely separate body and its own engines. The 2.4-liter four-cylinder has an output of 168 hp, the three-liter V6 has 176 hp. The compact sedan Buick Excelle, which is based on the Daewoo Lacetti and relies on 1.6- and 1.8-liter petrol engines, is much smaller.
The Chevrolet Sail with notchback, on the other hand, is based on the Aveo and is powered by 1.2 and 1.4 liter petrol engines with 85 and 102 hp. The Chevrolet Lova is also based on Aveo. The middle-class model Epica in turn makes 129 hp from a two-liter gasoline engine. In the luxury class, GM offers the Cadillac models CTS, SLS, SRX, Escalade and XLR in China.
At the other end of the range are the Wuling models. Mini-vans and mini-pickups that are powered by one-liter engines with 52 hp and 1.2 liter units with 70 hp. As a mini car, Wuling has the Chevy Spark based on the old Chevrolet Matiz in its range.
