S since 2010 the car manufacturers Renault /Nissan and Daimler have been working together in a wide variety of areas. Renault engines beat in Mercedes models, Mercedes engines in Infiniti models, the Renault Kangoo runs as a Mercedes Citan and the Infiniti Q30 inherits numerous genes from the Mercedes A-Class. A joint project is under construction in Mexico. The development of a Mercedes pickup based on the Nissan Navara has already been scheduled. Renault, too, has just presented a pickup study based on the Navara at the IAA.
E-Smart with Renault engines
Now the cooperation partners have explored further areas of cooperation. The upcoming electric models Fortwo and Forfour are to be equipped with electric motors from the Renault Zoe and batteries from the Daimler subsidiary Deutsche Accumotive. The electric Smarts should go on sale at the end of 2016.
When the partnership started in April 2010, the cooperation was limited to three projects, with a focus on Europe. Since then, the joint portfolio of the partners has grown more than fourfold to 13 projects in Europe, Asia and North and South America. 'The partnership is one of the most productive in the entire automotive industry,' emphasized Carlos Ghosn, Chairman and CEO of the Renault-Nissan Alliance, at the IAA in Frankfurt. 'Since the start of the cooperation in 2010, all joint projects worldwide have created added value for our customers,' confirms Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche. 'We cooperate where it is mutually beneficial. We will continue on this path,' Zetsche continued.
