Renault Clio R.S. 16: Bang rifle with 273 hp does not come

F ans already had the 273 hp Renault Clio RS16 happy and just waited for the price announcement from Renault. Now the bitter disappointment follows. Because the factory in Dieppe is to concentrate on the upcoming Alpine, the hotter Clio was canceled. It stays with the presentation item.

Renault Clio RS gets thicker jaws and 273 hp

With the special model of the Clio RS, the French wanted 40 years of Renaultsport and the comeback with a works team in Formula 1 to celebrate. To do justice to this occasion, the Renault Clio R.S. 16 was given a much more aggressive look. The wheel arches have additional 3 cm extensions, the side skirts have been adapted and ventilation gills open behind the front wheel arches. 19-inch models with 235/35 Michelin Sport SP2 tires rotate in the wheel arches. The chassis set-up has been adapted to the new framework conditions. From the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R, the Clio R.S. 16 takes over the adjustable racing shock absorbers with double-flow valve. The 350-millimeter brake discs at the front were also taken from the Mégane R.S. 275 Trophy-R taken over. On the rear axle, discs with a diameter of 260 millimeters slow down.

The rear window is covered with the large spoiler of the branded cup models and LED fog lights spread out in the newly shaped front apron.

The Renault Clio RS16 has made it even under the hood. The 1.6-liter turbo four-cylinder that can otherwise be found there was replaced by the two-liter unit from the Mégane. This means that the Clio R.S. 16 driver has a whopping 273 hp and a maximum torque of 360 Nm - in a small car, mind you. Switching is done manuallythrough 6 gears.

The interior features sports seats and 6-point seat belts. One looks in vain for air conditioning and a back seat. Both had to give way for weight reasons. The standard battery has also been replaced by a compact lithium-ion version.
