A n the models affected by the recall from the April to June 2011 production period, the electrically operated auxiliary coolant pump for the turbocharger may short-circuit. According to BMW, vehicle fires are said to have already broken out in two cases. Accidents or personal injury in connection with this possible defect have not yet become known.

The 4.4-liter V8 engines in the BMW 5, 5 GT, 6, 7 and X5 series are among those affected and X6 as well as the V12 engines in the 7 Series, Rolls Royce and the 1.6-liter turbo engines in the Mini.

In Germany, 360 BMW models are being recalled across all series. At Mini, 619 vehicles are affected in Germany. For Rolls Royce only global figures are available: 280 vehicles. All owners of affected models are written to by the manufacturer via the KBA and ordered with their vehicle to the workshops. There the pumps are checked and replaced if necessary.
