Recall BMW: Danger of short circuit due to defective heater

BMW is recalling 917,106 vehicles in the US and Canada due to the risk of fire. German customers are not affected. Vehicles are between 11 and 16 years old.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and automaker BMW are recalling 917,106 vehicles. In so-called "cold countries" such as the USA, Canada and South Korea, BMW has installed blow-by heaters in the manufacturing process of which irregularities may have occurred at the supplier. These could cause a short circuit and thus start a fire.

The following model series are affected by the recall:

  • 1 Series (128i) from the production period November 8, 2007 to October 4, 2013 (19,683 vehicles
  • 1 Series Cabrio (128i) from the production period November 12, 2007 to October 09, 2007 (19,077 vehicles)
  • 3 Series CoupĂ© (328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive) from the production period 10.5.2006 to 26.6.2013 (64,581 vehicles)
  • 3 Series Sedan (325i, 325xi, 328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive, 3300i), from 3300i the production period February 1, 2005 to December 16, 2011 (439,371 vehicles)
  • 3 Series station wagon (328i, 328xi, 328i xDrive) from the production period June 14, 2005 to May 29, 2012 (13,321 vehicles)
  • 3 Series Cabrio (328i) from the production period .2006 to October 1, 2013 (52,798 vehicles)
  • X3 (X3 3.0si, X3 xDrive30i) from the production period April 12, 2006 to August 24, 2010 (63,509 vehicles)
  • 5 Series Sedan (525i, 525xi, 528i, 5308xi, 5308xi, 530xi) from the production period from January 28th, 2005 to December 17th, 2009 (152,916 vehicles)
  • 5 Series station wagon (530xi) from the production period from January 19th, 2005 to February 22nd, 2007 (4,924 vehicles)
  • X5 (X5 3.0si, X5 xDrive30i) from the Production period May 23, 2006 to March 18, 2010 (59,363 vehicles)
  • Z4 CoupĂ© (Z4 3.0si) from the production period April 18, 2006 to August 11, 2008 (1,962 vehicles)
  • Z4 Roadster (Z4 3.0i, Z4 3.0si, Z4 sDrive30i ) from the production period April 28, 2005 to August 24, 2011 (25,601 vehicles)
  • The recall can be found at the NHTSA under case number 22V-119. There is no recall for Germany in this regard - and is not to be expected due to the problem components that are not installed in this country.,

    Conclusion

BMW has to make improvements to 917,106 vehicles in the 1 Series, 3 Series, X3, 5 Series, X5 and Z4 model series. During the manufacturing process of a component, irregularities have probably occurred that can now lead to a short circuit.
