D amals 1.19 million cars had left the automaker's factories. In the crisis year of 2009, it was significantly less with 914,900 vehicles.

German plants at capacity limits

'Our production was running at full speed in the second half of the year,' said board member Wolfgang Bernhard. 'I am proud of our entire team, which did an excellent job in this very dynamic market development.' Daimler is optimally prepared to face the challenges of the next year.

The German plants in particular have been working at their capacity limit in the current year, Daimler announced. Additional and special shifts were also carried out there. The C-Class, the E and S-Class luxury sedans, the A and B-Class compact cars and the GLK SUV were particularly popular. The factories in Sindelfingen, Rastatt and Bremen were therefore particularly busy.

Because of the booming demand, Daimler boss Dieter Zetsche had already raised the forecast three times this year. The Swabians want to make a full operating profit of seven billion euros after losses during the 2010 crisis.
