At the rear, the changes are marginal. Here, too, the new Mercedes SL gets a new apron, which is more based on the design of the AMG GT. For the interior, Mercedes is planning a few new technical gadgets in the R231 - the latest driver assistance and information systems are introduced here. In addition, the dials and hands of the instrument cluster have been redrawn. The center console optionally carries an analog clock and two USB sockets as standard. The new steering wheel comes flattened at the bottom. The 'Magic Vision Control' wiper system is also new. The new 'Driving Assistance Package Plus' includes a distance pilot and active assistants for braking, blind spots and keeping in lane.

When the Mercedes SL is at dealerships from April 2016 , then there will be a revised engine program under the hood. The SL 400 relies on a three-liter V6 biturbo with 367 hp and 500 Nm and the SL 500 on a 4.7-liter biturbo V8 with 455 hp and 700 Nm. Both engines are coupled with a nine-speed automatic. With Dynamic Select with five driving programs, the set-up of the engine, transmission, chassis and steering can now be changed at the push of a button. Active Body Control with a curve tilting function is supposed to provide more driving dynamics. There are also the two AMG versions SL 63 and 65. The SL 63 relies on the 5.5-liter V8 biturbo with 585 hp and 900 Nm, the 65 on the six-liter V12 biturbo with 630 hp and 1,000 Nm.

The everyday suitability of the Mercedes SL is increased with the convertible top that can now be operated at speeds of up to 40 km /h and the automatic separation of the remaining trunk. In addition to the usual AMG look, the models come on the market with reinforced brakes, an optimized chassis and other wheel-tire combinations.

The basic price for the Mercedes SL, thecan be ordered, is 99,097 euros for the SL 400. The 500 costs from 122,897 euros. The Mercedes-AMG models SL 63 and SL 65 can be ordered from 161,691 euros and 239,934 euros.

The car is open and the door still slams acoustically into the lock : You can hear the massive, high-quality door construction of the Mercedes SL when the gate slams. Inside, luxury, comfort and space dominate. The leather seats are clearly designed to bed their occupants fatigue-free on long journeys. And the main part of the soft leather smell seems to emanate from these fine chairs. The steering wheel, which is flattened at the bottom, makes getting in easier. Its rim is not as thick as on a BMW M model or a Maserati, but it feels nice and easy to grip and all steering wheel buttons are easily accessible. This steering wheel is available in over 100 variants with its different surfaces and functional features.

The two-seater also leaves a lot of space for tall occupants - after all, the USA is the main market for the roadster. The clearly legible instruments illuminate the driver invitingly. Also optically again and again like a few seconds of vacation: The tweeters of the Bang & Olufsen sound system enthroned on the right and left of the dashboard.

Get out, enjoy the full door slap again and off to the rear that has not changed much in terms of looks. The rear lights are now, just like the new headlights at the front, with a much clearer drawing than their predecessors. In addition, something has changed under the tailgate: To make loading easier, the trunk partition now automatically retracts when the tailgate is opened - previously, this had to be done by hand for those who might be carrying luggage in both hands.
