With an optimized chassis and new engines, the new Hyundai i30 aims to score points with the European public. W he feels like we were able to try it out on a test drive in camouflaged pre-production vehicles . You can recognize the new i30 by its tighter design. The Hyundai i30, designed and developed in Europe, has the typical new cascade radiator grille with a large Hyundai logo. The LED daytime running lights were positioned upright at the bottom of the apron and expanded to include the indicators, the headlights - optionally with LED technology, standard remains halogen, xenon is not available - extend far into the fenders. Thanks to active air flaps in the cooling air ducts, the drag coefficient should be 0.30. With its wide LED taillights, the black rear spoiler and the raised rear apron, the i30 looks beefy from behind. The rear passengers seem to be able to enjoy more headroom thanks to a slightly higher roof. However, the i30 has become wider, flatter and longer - how it behaves with the headroom is in the section 'seat sample'.

Die Depending on the version, the wheel arches of the new i30 fill 15-inch steel or 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels. For the steering, Hyundai promises a ten percent increase in directness. The Koreans are now using 53 percent high-strength steel for the chassis, which increases rigidity by 20 percent and allegedly reduced the chassis weight by 28 kilograms. The color selection of the body extends to 12 paints. The rear seat can now be folded down in one part and for the first time offers a through-loading option. The loading volume varies between 395 and 1,301 liters. An optional glass roof visually expands the interior. Further body variants are a station wagon and a coupé.
The interior of the new Hyundai i30, for which there are three color combinations to choose from, shines with an 8-inch touchscreen (plus one inch compared to the previous model). In the basic configuration, a 5-inch black and white display must be sufficient; this display is then available in color and as a touchscreen for an additional charge. The navigation system is always linked to the 8-inch screen and can be expanded to include traffic sign recognition. The steering wheel can be heated, the round instruments remain analogous.

Hyundai i30 also comes with a sporty N-model
The refreshed engine range of the Hyundai i30 offers two new turbo gasoline engines, a suction gasoline engine and a diesel in three power levels. The new one-liter, three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine produces 120 hp and 170 Nm, the 1.4-liter four-cylinder turbo gasoline engine has 140 hp and 242 Nm. The 1.4-liter basic petrol engine develops 100 hp and 134 Nm. The 1.6-liter turbodiesel is available with 95, 110 and 136 hp (all with 280 Nm). Shifting is done with a manual six-speed gearshift, and a seven-speed dual clutch transmission is optionally available for the three-cylinder turbo gasoline engine and the two more powerful diesels. When it comes to the chassis, the i30 relies on a multi-link rear axle and stiffer dampers. The brake system has been enlarged.
Sports fans can look forward to an N version ( here for the first ride in the sports model) that will come in 2017 and then a 260 hp two-liter turbo engine will carry.

Hyundai i30 with a large safety package
The safety equipment has also been upgraded. In addition to seven standard airbags, the package includes, among other things, an emergency brake assistant, which can optionally be expanded to include pedestrian detection, cruise control (standard) with adaptive distance control and stop function (option), an optional blind spot warning, a rear cross traffic warning, and active lane keeping -Warning system (option), the above-mentioned traffic sign recognition, a high-beam assistant and, for the first time, a drowsiness warning.
The new Hyundai i30 was developed and tested in Europe (including 480 laps on the Nordschleife of the Nürburgring, which is about one track of 150,000 kilometers) and, like its predecessor, is being built for Europe in the Czech town of Nosovice.
The Hyundai i30 Pure with the 1.4-liter petrol engine with 100 hp will be available from 17,450 euros from the end of January, making it more expensive than the previous model. Seat sample Hyundai i30
She stands there extremely pleasantlylatest generation of the model that Hyundai was the first to have the 'i' in its name. The design should apparently please the whole world - because Hyundai head of design Peter Schreyer says: “Design should be the number one reason to buy a Hyundai.” Thanks to the side bead that extends from the headlights to the rear lights, the car looks compact and like one piece. The further development is also clearly visible inside: the multimedia screen sits ergonomically on the upper end of the dashboard. You have to like its wide border, but at least there is enough space to accommodate three large direct selection buttons on the left and right. The climate control is now separated from the audio control unit and sits well below the multimedia screen. The new safety assistants can be operated using a row of buttons on the left below the steering wheel.
The perforated leather seats of the well-equipped exhibition model feel fantastic and make you want to go on a long journey. In addition, the new i30 is much clearer and lighter in the interior than its predecessor - the shoulder line has sunk significantly downwards. However, the view to the rear is restricted by the wider C-pillar. The optional large panoramic roof lets even more daylight into the interior of the i30, but also ensures that people who are 1.90 meters tall almost bump their heads against the roof of the car. This also applies to the well-made rear seat with its comfortable rear seat: the headroom is okay for 1.85-meter people, but it gets tight for taller people. Back on the driver's seat: The thick steering wheel feels good - just like the other soft surfaces. The selector lever of the dual clutch gearbox is easy to grip, the driver's seating position fits.
The trunk lid opens easily, the trunk floor can be opened halfway and reveals the spare wheel and storage compartments on the right and left.
