It's about topics that we (and you) encounter every day: new driving bans, to Hamburg, Stuttgart, Frankfurt and Berlin now in Cologne and Bonn and even a section of the A 40 motorway in the Essen city area because the limit value for nitrogen oxides of 40 micrograms per cubic meter has been exceeded. In 2017 it was exactly 62 mg - a value that is far below what is permitted in the workplace: there it is 60 to a maximum of 950 mg. For orientation: In the USA, the environmental agency Epa has set the limit value for outside air at 100 mg /m3.

The colleagues are discussing up and down, diesel fans point out the much more dangerous fine dust pollution that is threatened by gasoline engines, and point out that CO2 emissions have increased since the diesel engine's market share has declined. The solution?

There is no solution. But there is an opportunity to be sensible. Clean diesel on long journeys outside the cities. E-cars with a battery range of around 300 km (yes, that's enough, otherwise the e-cars will be too heavy and too expensive) in the city, because they will then be stationary with zero emissions. And for those who cannot afford two cars or who often commute between town and country, particulate-cleaned gasoline engines are plug-in hybrids. Incidentally, like e-cars, they will receive special funding for company car recipients from 2019. In the coming year you will also be able to choose from a wide range of these drive variants. There will be more affordable e-cars than ever before. But there are also more driving bans threatening than ever before - 30 proceedings are pending.

Anyone who gives the impression that they are campaigning for good air and thus for the environment must deal holistically with the energy balance . If cars are rejected because implausible limit values ​​that were arbitrarily set in the EU in 1999 are not met, then that is environmental nonsense.

So that no doubts arise: clean air is an extremely important concern for auto motor und sport . This is shown by our elaborate exhaust gas measurements, which we have been carrying out for years, to name the horse and rider when enginesare not as clean as they should be.
