A uch Hyundai is with the electric car specialist entered into a strategic partnership in May 2019. The Koreans want to put the first prototypes of high-performance electric cars and high-performance fuel cell vehicles on the wheels by 2020. Both partners are investing 80 million euros each in the partnership

The company from Zagreb develops and produces high-performance electric drives and battery systems. It all started with company founder Mate Rimac when he began developing an electrically powered sports car in his garage in 2009. At the Geneva Motor Show and the IAA 2011, he exhibited the Concept One, which he said was the fastest electric car in the world at the time.

Rimac Concept One with a crash

The Rimac Concept One is driven by four electric motors, two on each axle. Together, the water-cooled electric motors should provide an output of 1,088 PS. The maximum torque is given as 1,600 Nm. While the 2011 model sprinted to 100 km /h in 2.8 seconds, the production model needed 0.2 seconds less. Tempo 200 should be reached in 6.2 seconds, the 300 km /h mark falls at 14.2 seconds. Rimac won a drag race between a Tesla Model S P90D and a Ferrari LaFerrari. However, the series production of the Concept One remained uncertain for a long time. In 2013 88 models were due to be launched, in 2016 there were 8 vehicles.

The model achieved fame as the presenter Richard Hammond in a TV production for the car show 'The Grand Tour' at a hillclimb event in accident in Switzerland. He injured his knee in the process and the Rimac burned out.

Rimac C2 at 412 km /h top speed

Meanwhile, Rimac has his electric vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2018 'C Two' (Concept 2) presented. The two-seater develops 1,915 HP and provides a total torque of 2,300 Nm. The e-racer should accelerate to 100 km /h in under two seconds, 300 km /h after 11.8 seconds, and at top speed it should be 412 kilometers per hour. The range is 650 kilometers and can be charged to 80 percent of the battery charge within half an hour using a 250 kW fast charging system.

'Porsche has been supporting Rimac in its positive development for a year,' says Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Management and Board Member for Finance and IT at Porsche AG. “Us wasIt quickly became clear that Porsche and Rimac can learn a lot from each other. We are convinced of Mate Rimac and his company. That is why we have now increased our shares and are expanding our cooperation in the field of battery technology. ”

Rimac also manufactures e-bikes

Rimac employs over 500 people in Zagreb. The focus is on battery technology in the high-voltage area, electric drives and the development of digital interfaces between humans and machines (HMI). Rimac is also active in the development and production of e-bikes. This business was spun off in 2013 from the subsidiary Greyp Bikes.

“The partnership with Porsche is a very important step for Rimac. Our goal is to be a module and system supplier for automobile manufacturers in the areas of electrification, connectivity and driver assistance systems, ”explains Managing Director Mate Rimac.
