'From February or March we will be running special shifts at the Zuffenhausen plant,' said the Works council chairman and deputy chairwoman of the supervisory board of Porsche.
Porsche wants to create 400 new jobs
The car manufacturer plans to increase the output from 140 vehicles at the main plant to 160 units per day. By 2013 there should be 200 cars, said Hück. Porsche sports cars are manufactured at the Zuffenhausen site. The Boxster and Cayman models, which are currently still being assembled in Finland, are to be added in the future. The Porsche 918 Spyder is also expected from 2013. The company is also building a new central warehouse near Stuttgart. Overall, the works council expects the workforce in production and warehouse to be increased by 400 colleagues.
The latest model, the sporty off-road vehicle with the working title Cajun, is not yet included. The only thing known about the Porsche, which is supposed to win over younger customers, is that it will have a common platform with the Audi Q 5. The Leipzig plant has a good chance as a production site because it is easier to expand than the Zuffenhausen site.
