D he French PSA Peugeot Citroen Group is expanding its cooperation with the Japanese partner Mitsubishi. The collaboration is evident in the new Peugeot 4008, which will be shown for the first time at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012. The little Frenchman uses the Mitsubishi ASX as the technical basis. The French had already launched offshoots of the Mitsubishi Outlander with the models Peugeot 4007 and Citroen C-Crosser. The electric models Peugeot Ion and Citroen C-Zero are also derived from a Mitsubishi model - the i-MIEV.
Peugeot 4008 with four engines on offer
To become a member of the Going through the Peugeot family, the Japanese got a new front and a new rear in the branded look. The brawny face has a large grill with an integrated bumper. Large air inlets on the Peugeot 4008 set accents. The newly shaped headlights with LED daytime running light strips take up their lines. The rear was trimmed to the brand line with a new apron and new lighting units. In the side view, the Peugeot 4008 differs from the technology dispenser by a newly drawn window line that tapers to a point at the rear.
Two gasoline and two diesel engines are offered under the strongly contoured bonnet. The basic engine is a 1.6-liter four-cylinder with 116 hp and 152 Nm. The two-liter petrol engine develops 150 hp and 198 Nm. The Peugeot 4008 is shifted using a manual five-speed gearbox. The large petrol engine can also be combined with a CVT transmission. On the diesel side there is a 112 hp and 280 Nm 1.6 liter and a 1.8 liter HDi with 150 hp and 300 Nm torque. Both are combined with a manual six-speed gearbox.
Peugeot 4008 is coming in spring 2012
to be offered the Peugeot 4008 in Europe mainly with all-wheel drive. Similar to the Mitsubishi, there are three modes to choose from. 2WD, 4WD or a locked mode.
After its presentation at the Geneva Motor Show, the Peugeot 4008 should come onto the market in spring 2012. Prices have not yet been announced. The Mitsubishi ASX is available from around 18,000 euros.
