D he still new Opel owner PSA is looking for synergies in all areas. Opel development centers and production sites will be integrated into the infrastructure of the French group. New model series share the technology with their group brothers.

The SUV models Opel Crossland X and Grandland X are already based on PSA platforms. The smaller Crossland X, for example, has its French counterpart in the Citroën C3 Aircross, the compact Grandland X in the Peugeot 3008. Both, like the high-roof combination Opel Combo Life, which corresponds to the Citroën Berlingo and the Peugeot Rifter, were already through before the takeover of Opel PSA was developed as part of a cooperation.

Opel Connect in the new Corsa from 2019

The first new Opel, which is being built under the direction of PSA CEO Carlos Tavarez, is the successor to the aged Corsa. The small car is due to hit the market in 2019. It will be the first Opel with the new connectivity service called Opel Connect.

Here too, Opel is breaking away from General Motors. Their OnStar offer, which is also available at Opel, is gradually being replaced by Opel Connect. According to its own statements, Opel wants to have converted the entire model range by 2024. At this point in time, the last series from the old days, such as the Insignia, should also be due for replacement.

Opel Connect largely corresponds to the offers of the other PSA brands Citroën, DS and Peugeot. In the event of a vehicle breakdown or an accident, contact is made to a call center either manually or automatically. There they take care of the dispatch of a breakdown service or the recovery of the car and occupants. There is also an app for the smartphone with which you can use the navigation system to guide you to your destination after parking and then find the car again.

Stolen vehicles are located. A digital maintenance booklet is also part of the Connect offer, with which the current vehicle status can be called up on the smartphone.

OnStar until the end of 2020

Opel drivers are currently concluding a special contract for the use of connectivity services, which also include a concergie service (including for reserving a table), with OnStar Europe Limited. According to a report, Opel plans to offer this service to the usual extent until the end of 2020.

Whether it will be for current models with OnStar access thereafterThere will be a conversion option or whether the customers of these cars will then simply be able to use fewer services is currently not known.
