5 years after its introduction, Opel has the Insignia extensive facelift granted. When redesigning the mid-range model, the Rüsselsheim engineers and developers focused primarily on the cockpit and the engines. The center console now has a new, 8-inch touchscreen and the new touchpad in front of the gearshift lever accepts finger commands for entering GPS data or the like. A few fewer buttons here and there should also have significantly simplified the handling of air conditioning and Co.
The face-lifted Opel Insignia 2, which is making its public debut at the IAA, will be powered by newly developed petrol and Diesel engines are available. The diesel range is supplemented by the new two-liter diesel with either 120 or 140 hp. The 1.6-liter turbo with 170 hp makes its way into the Insignia range of petrol engines. A two-liter turbo with 250 hp and standard all-wheel drive is also celebrating its premiere.
Opel Insignia in off-road look at the IAA
Speaking of all-wheel drive: As an absolute novelty, Opel is stepping onto the off-road station wagon with the Insignia Country Tourer. The Country Tourer will make its debut at the IAA and will then roll to the dealers as a jacked up station wagon with standard all-wheel drive and 3 selectable engines (1 petrol, 2 diesel). Underrun protection elements at the front and rear as well as front, side and wheel arch extensions made of plastic give the Sports Tourer offshoot a certain SUV character and should also visually underline its forest and meadow (or rather dirt road skills).
Also completely new and also based on Insignia: the Monza concept study. With the extremely dynamically designed coupé show car, Opel is showing at the IAA 2013 how one imagines the brand's design approach. The manufacturer also wants to present a cockpit design with completely new technology for infotainment and connectivity in the interior of the two-door model. So far, Opel has not even published a handful of pictures. So one can be curious.
The IAA presentation of the revised Opel Meriva, which has been disguised as a Erlkönig for some time, is still somewhat uncertain.
