D ie The natural gas variant of the Opel Astra is celebrating its world premiere at the International Motor Show in Frankfurt and will soon be available at dealerships. As a business model, the Opel Astra 1.4 Ecotec CNG, the five-door sedan with the alternative drive costs 23,020 euros, while the station wagon, known as the Sports Tourer, is available from 24,120 euros. In terms of equipment, the same options are available for the Opel Astra CNG as for all other Astra models.

450 km range in gas mode

The 110 hp 1.4-liter -Turbo engine of the Opel Astra CNG is based on the all-aluminum gasoline engine from Astra and Mokka X. The four-cylinder has been optimized for the use of natural gas, biogas or any mixture thereof. The maximum torque is specified as 200 Nm, which should be between 2,000 and 3,600 tours. The natural gas supply is ensured by two tanks made of carbon fiber composites with a total capacity of 19 kilograms (117.5 liters). The range in pure gas operation should be around 450 kilometers. In addition to the gas supply, the Astra CNG also has a 13.7 liter gasoline reserve. The Opel Astra CNG is shifted with a manual six-speed gearbox.

The Opel Astra CNG should be able to reach 100 km /h after 10.9 seconds, and the top speed is specified as 200 km /h. Opel specifies the consumption for the Astra CNG at 4.1 to 4.3 kg /100 km, the CO2 emissions should be 113-116 g /km. Thanks to the tax concession for CNG that has been set up in Germany until 2026, the fuel is significantly cheaper than gasoline.
