O liver Heilmer has been President of the 100 percent subsidiary Designworks in Los Angeles (USA state California) since August 1st, 2016. Before that he was responsible for interior design at BMW in Munich. Among other things, Heilmer designed the cockpit of the BMW X5. Heilmer will take up his post on September 1, 2017, and his team includes Christopher Weil (Exterior Design), Kerstin Schmeding (Color and Material Design) and, since June 1, Christian Bauer (Interior Design). Heilmer reports directly to BMW chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk.

McLaren design chief Frank Stephenson was originally supposed to be mini design chief.

Originally, McLaren's head of design, Frank Stephenson, was supposed to take up the post at Mini. However, internally, Stephenson is said to have 'gambled away' The British-American designer played a key role in the success of the Mini under BMW direction: he drew the first New Mini after the last original Mini had rolled off the assembly line in October 2000. Stephenson also designed the BMW X5 before he closed in 2002 Maserati switched to Ferrari, Fiat and Alfa Romeo before he became head of design at McLaren in 2008.
