Nissan Signal Shield
03.05.2017
M it With a newly developed center console for cars, Nissan wants to eliminate the distraction potential of a smartphone. 'Signal Shield' is designed to prevent distractions and reduce accidents caused by smartphones at the wheel. A first prototype of the Signal Shield has now been installed in a Nissan Juke.
The compartment for the smartphone is located in the armrest in the center console. The signal shielding is based on the Faraday cage principle - a wire mesh around an object keeps electromagnetic fields away. For the smartphone, this means that all signals such as Bluetooth or Wi-Fi are prevented from reaching the smartphone after the cover is closed. Of course, smartphone users could just switch off their mobile phones.
