New VW Touareg at the Geneva Motor Show 2010: More economical and lighter

Overall, the new V W Touareg not only lost weight - it also became flatter and now protrudes at 1.71 meters a few centimeters less in height. The headroom is said to have been affected just as little as the feeling of space, which benefits from the increase in length by almost five centimeters to 4.80 meters and a larger wheelbase of 2.90 meters. The width of the VW Touareg remained unchanged at 1.93 meters.

VW Touareg also as a hybrid

The range of engines in the VW Touareg is considerably more economical : The well-known V6 TDI engine with 240 hp and 550 Nm torque has been optimized for this. He should now be content with 1.9 liters less fuel per 100 kilometers and level off at 7.4 liters of diesel on average. The VW Touareg V6 FSI 4Motion will work in a similarly efficient manner in the future - on average, the basic gasoline engine should be satisfied with 2.5 liters less. The 3.6-liter direct injection engine now consumes 9.9 liters per 100 kilometers with unchanged performance data of 280 hp and 360 Nm.

The one from the Audi -Regal taken over V8 diesel with 4.2 liters displacement, which delivers 340 hp and 800 Newton meters. As a new top engine, a hybrid drive is also being used for the first time in a VW Touareg, which, according to Volkswagen, should combine the performance of a classic eight-cylinder engine with the consumption of a six- or four-cylinder engine. The combination of drive components consists of a V6 TSI supercharged engine with 333 hp and a 52 hp electric motor that sits between the automatic transmission and the engine. In a double pack, the new VW Touareg should have 379 hp and 580 Newton meters available. The Touareg hybrid can drive purely electrically up to 50 km /h before the combustion engine engages - VW specifies a consumption of 8.2 liters per 100 kilometers for the hybrid variant. As part of the new downsizing strategy, the two power variants V10 TDI and W12 of the predecessor are also no longer part of the Touareg range. For this purpose, all petrol and diesel variants are now equipped with a start-stop system as standard.

Eight-speed automatic for the VW Touareg

As with the Bavarian one Competitors
BMW X5 , an eight-speed automatic is also installed as standard in all versions of the Touareg on the VW Touareg . VW is now offering four-wheel drive in two versions : The reduction-free permanent all-wheel drive 4Motion with Torsen differential and an optional 4X-Motion variant with a transfer case including reduction stage and an engageable rear axle lock. The Touareg also has the new look of the family รก la Golf , Polo and VW Amarok , plus more dynamic lines.

The new VW Touareg: variable and safe

The rear seat can be adjusted by 16 centimeters move the length. The trunk volume has increased to 580 to a maximum of 1,642 liters. The numerous standard features in the interior also include a CD sound system with touchscreen, on-board computer with information screen, cruise control, multifunction leather steering wheel, 17-inch alloy wheels and two-zone air conditioning.

New and further developed assistance systems are intended to provide relaxation and additional support for the driver. These include, for example, Lane Assist, which warns the driver via steering wheel vibration if the car leaves the lane without a blinking signal, or the radar-controlled ACC distance control, which, however, costs extra. A tailgate that can be operated electrically by remote control and the large panoramic sliding roof are also nice extras that can be ordered with the second generation of the Touareg.

The VW Touareg II will have its world premiere on the Geneva Motor Show celebrate. The new edition of the VW SUV should go on sale in April. Prices for the new VW Touareg start at 50,700 euros for the Touareg V6 TDI Bluemotion Technology, the Touareg V8 TDI is available from 70,800 euros. VW is calling for a starting price of 73,500 euros for the Touareg Hybrid. Further prices have not yet been announced.
