T he car market is well in the first half of 2016 Plus. 1,733,839 cars came into circulation for the first time, 339,563 of them in June. The manufacturers are happy about a solid growth of +7.1 percent in the first six months of the year. However, this is once again not the absolute benchmark for the boom segment, because the SUVs posted sales growth of +26.1 percent at the same time. 353,482 off-road vehicles and SUVs received approval in the first half of 2016.
Seat Ateca, Maserati Levante, Tesla Model X
And the segment is getting bigger and bigger, with several new additions in May and June we now list 80 different model series. There were a couple of really exciting newcomers to be seen in the past month. Not intended directly for the mass market, the Maserati Levante stalks its way into the statistics, but it gets more popular with the new Seat Ateca, which makes a dream start and immediately places itself in the middle of the field.
Also new this month is the Infiniti QX30. It will be interesting to see in the coming half year where the GLA brother finally fits. In the first regular month of sales, the numbers of the new Ford Edge also make one sit up and take notice. And, as the last new addition, albeit with rather manageable number of registrations to be expected: Tesla's Model X is here.
Jeep with a final spurt
Almost all manufacturers increased their sales in the first half of the year, one of the exceptions concerns All-terrain vehicle pioneer Jeep: sales there fell by -1.0 percent. However, there is a glimmer of hope. In June, the brand took off, not least thanks to the compact Jeep Renegade, whose sales almost doubled within a month.
At the lower end of the statistics there is one who was actually no longer expected to be proud seven Chevrolet Trax newcomers report to the registration offices. Also a few curious marginal aspects for the statistics: two schnapps figures in the half-year. 3,333 Honda CR-V and 11,111 Skoda Yeti found a first owner during the past six months.
And 27,016 VW Tiguan, which increases the lead of the market leader over the rest of the SUV pack, which the market leader had struggled to achieve last month . With 4,662 new registrations in June, the top dog dominates the table againclear.
We will show you the exact sales figures and placements of new SUV registrations in June 2016 in our photo show.
