New sports car registrations in August 2017 (KBA)

D The Mercedes E was successful last month -Class Coupé in September 2014. In the same year, it was the best of the year in the registration statistics for sports cars. Since then, however, the two-door has had to queue up in the back. Behind the Porsche 911, Audi TT and Ford Mustang, who made up the monthly and annual victories among themselves. That is changing now.

In August 2017, the E-Class Coupé overtook all competitors for the first time and secured the top position among sports cars. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) has 634 new registrations, making the coupé almost a quarter of the newly registered sports cars in the reporting month. Compared to the same month last year, the E-Class Coupé has grown enormously (+ 172.1 percent) - thanks to the new model introduced in March.

Ford Mustang loses significantly

The other positions in August 2017 were the Mercedes SLK /SLC with 255 new registrations and a commercial owner quota of only 33 percent and the Audi TT with 189 new registrations. The TT in particular is losing ground compared to the same month last year (-32.5 percent). Among the sports cars with the highest registrations are the Mercedes-AMG GT (151), Porsche Boxster (115), Porsche Cayman (102), Chevrolet Camaro (89) and Jaguar F-Type (78).

The KBA shows a total of 2,635 newly registered sports cars for August 2017. That is almost 1,000 less than in July. Nevertheless, the sports cars recorded an increase of 5.1 percent. Because last year they did worse at the same time. Looking at the year, however, it is still further behind the previous year's figures (-10.4 percent).
